In the book of Acts, we see Philip – a deacon in the early church – send by God to the desert area between Jerusalem and Gaza, a desert area.  Philip obeyed this calling and went.  God gave him further instruction to go talk to a travelling Ethiopian man.  It just so happened that the traveller was reading Isaiah Chapter 53.  Philip took the initiative to talk to him about the passage and then explain how it was all pointing to Jesus’ completed work on the cross.  The Ethiopian was shown the way of salvation and made a commitment right there and then and got baptised.
